This Saturday, April 27, Abu Dhabi will host an unprecedented event in the world of motorsports.

At the Yas Marina Circuit, 10,000 spectators will have the privilege of witnessing the very first race of autonomous cars, marking a significant milestone in the history of this sport. Initiated by ASPIRE, the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) promises to be as innovative as it is captivating.

Eight teams from around the world will compete for a prize pool of $2.25 million. Teams Code19 Racing, Constructor University, Fly Eagle, HUMDA Lab, KINETIZ, PoliMOVE, UNIMORE and the Technical University of Munich are gearing up to take on the challenge.

These teams, made up of engineers and developers, will have at their disposal identical Dallara Super Formula SF23 cars, made autonomous by technologies developed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). This levels the playing field, and the difference will come down to the performance of the artificial intelligence algorithms developed by each team.

The most remarkable aspect of this competition is the format of the race. For the first time in the history of motorsports, four autonomous cars will compete against each other on the track at the same time. After a series of pre-qualifications, the top performances will be selected for the final event, the Overtaking Challenge, which will crown the winner of the competition.

Moreover, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) will pit its autonomous car against former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat. This confrontation between man and machine will assess the progress of autonomous technology against human expertise.

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) marks a real turning point. This competition represents much more than just a race. It embodies the advancement of skills in coding, AI algorithms, and software development.
