[News] Premier transfert autonome de matériel entre deux satellites

Les deux satellites de la mission Orbital Express de la DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency), lancés le 8 mars dernier, ont réalisé pour la première fois des opérations de transfert de matériel en orbite. ASTRO (Autonomous Space Transport Robotic Operations) développé par Boeing, et NextSat de Ball Aerospace se sont en effet arrimés afin d’effectuer pour la première fois un échange automatique d’ergols et de matériel.

Est que ça pourra entrainer l'envoi de satellites plus petits (niveau carburant) qui pourront être rechargés de temps en temps ?

Le scénario 2-1 a été réalisé : séparation à 10 m et retour.
The ASTRO and the NextSat completely unmated and separated to a distance of 10 meters apart from one another. They flew in formation for approximately an hour, and then re-mated again. All activities were conducted for the most part out of contact with the ground and were accomplished by the satellites operating autonomously. This is the first step toward Orbital Express’ final goal of separating to a distance of 7 km and remating. The video is a composite of still pictures and events happen faster than actual time.
