John D. MacDonald

John Dann MacDonald (24 juillet 1916 à Sharon, Pennsylvanie - 28 décembre 1986) est un écrivain américain célèbre pour ses romans policiers et son détective Travis McGee. Il a également publié plusieurs romans de science-fiction.

Né à Sharon, Pennsylvanie, il fut inscrit à la Wharton School de l'Université de Pennsylvanie qu'il abandonna en cours de deuxième année pour des petits boulots à New York. Il suivit des cours de direction d'entreprise à l'université de Syracuse et y rencontra Dorothy Prentiss qu'il épousa en 1937. L'année suivante, il était diplômé de Syracuse et en 1939, décrochait un MBA à l'université de Harvard.

Premiers textes

En 1940, MacDonald entra dans l'armée américaine et finit à l'OSS en Extrême-Orient pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il commença sa carrière littéraire en 1945 quand il adressa une nouvelle à sa femme, qui la fit parvenir à un magazine.
