Les réfrigérants, ou fluides frigorigènes, ont une nomenclature spécifique, régie par la norme 34-1992 d'ANSI/ASHRAE et approuvée par l'Union internationale de chimie pure et appliquée (IUPAC). Ce numéro se compose de la lettre R (parfois remplacée par le mot Fréon, ou par la classe spécifique du réfrigérant — CFC, HCFC...) suivi d'un code de 2 à 5 chiffres qui découle de sa structure moléculaire. La liste suivante répertorie les différents réfrigérants selon cette norme, leur nom IUPAC, leur formule brute, et leur numéro CAS.
